current event – design

http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/archives/taiwan_a_heartfelt_destination.php

Earlier this year, Taiwan Tourism Bureau introduced their new logo and wordmark by Winkreative. The typeface is a stencil serif with orange gradient. However, I prefer the old wordmark (left) which consists of colorful brush calligraphic strokes and a stamp on top of the letter N which was made to look like the shape of the island. The older wordmark has an Asian feel to it but the new wordmark just looks industrial and too modern for a country that claims to be “The Heart of Asia.” In terms of color, I also don’t like the use of orange here. When I think of colors and Taiwan, the color orange definitely isn’t one of the first colors that comes to my mind and don’t understand how it relates to the country besides it being part of the design.  Over all, I don’t think this new wordmark is cohesive with Taiwan’s identity or its new logo.
