Response To Reading

The biggest insight that I gained from the reading was how understanding the history of how and why letterforms have evolved can guide you in selecting the appropriate type. It is intriguing that typefaces continue to develop based on their historic characteristics. . This really made the connection between aesthetics and purpose because the typefaces have developed in a social context as well. For example, bold and decorative typefaces were brought into play in the 19th century when advertising was at a peak. Typefaces are created for a reason and it is the artist’s responsibility to appropriately choose the best one to achieve the objective that they are searching for and to enhance their work.
