The Free People wordmark is probably one of my favorite wordmarks. This clothing brand has its very own unique style, usually inspired by vintage styles. The clothes themselves look “free,” which gives a “hippie” style to the clothes. Their wordmark looks like it was handwritten, which also implies how the clothes are carefully designed and almost handmade. I also like the dragonfly at the top. It adds to the nature and “free” look that the brand searches for. Also, dragonflies fly, which adds to the “free” feeling as well.
The FedEx wordmark I think is really clever. It is simple, the colors stand out, and there is a hidden arrow between the letters “Ex” which a lot of people don’t notice. I also like how the kerning in the letters is used to make the letters very close, and make that arrow visible.
I don’t particularly like the wordmark for RYAN AIR. This airline is known for their cheap flights in Europe, but their wordmark looks confusing. I don’t like the type used because it makes the “R” look like a “T” and so it seems like it says “Tryanair”. If you are trying to design a wordmark, it should always be clear.
