Response to Reading

Something that I was intrigued by in the reading was the topic of creating hierarchy for a website. One would assume that a designer would look to implement hierarchy on a website as one would for any print document, whether it be a poster, textbook, or résumé. With a website, however, it isn’t as simple as using a small caps font or changing the typeface in InDesign. Websites have the potential to reach billions of people, but not all people have the same computer software/programs/plugins. Thus, in a way, a designer’s creative freedom is somewhat restricted when designing for the web. Another layer of complexity is added to achieving successful hierarchy, making for a completely different graphic design experience. Even the coding needs to be reorganized, if one were to consider visually impaired readers.
