Reading Response #1

The book offered different examples of phrases with different kerning. I never realized how much the spacing between letters mattered. Most of the examples with equal spacing between the letters actually hurt my eyes. Also, after reading the book and listening to lecture, I don’t like centered text as much as I did before. It makes the reader work harder for the information. The section about web hierarchies confused me a little. Do search engines determine which pages to suggest to users by measuring the largest text on the page or the text highest to the top left? If so, can web designers using html “weight” text to make search engines choose their sites more frequently? That kind of defeats the purpose of a search engine.
